It is those last days of December when you finally take some time to sit down and look back on your past year. Did everything turn out as planned? Did you manage to extract some simple pleasure from the execution of a task well done? Or do you still have many unchecked bullet points, because what was written down in your New Year Resolutions was quickly forgotten when February just started?

I don't know about you, but I've always been someone who quickly forgets about my new year goals, and then falls into a state of anxiety and self-blame as the year goes by. It is not a pleasant feeling, watching everyone around me take firm steps towards their better self when I'm just simply stuck in the same place. That anxiety and insecurity drive me to sit down and make a detailed plan for the next 12 months whenever the year starts then completely forget about it when February arrives. Because, the truth is, our brains have evolved to become lazy, lack in rationale and self-control, no matter how great your motivation is.

Over the years, I've realized there is one habit that helps me overcome my insecurity, that's writing. I write down the things I am grateful for, the things I do okay. All of my negative thoughts are put aside when being written so that I can spare some brain cells for other important stuff. I also gradually set much smaller goals, by day, by week, by month sometimes. Small goals are ways easier to achieve, and they keep me motivated on my journey of personal development.

Before starting with digital journals, I failed many times with those elaborately decorated analog bullet ones. I realized it was absolute simplicity that brought unexpected results. I don't need to impress anyone. Just a few words, or sentences to describe the passing day. Sometimes it’s just emojis. Every day. At 10 pm. That's enough.

2022 is the 3rd time I start the new year with a digital journal. And I decided to share it with you, to look back on your 2021, and create a few small goals for 2022. Most importantly, I hope this journal will accompany you throughout the next 365 days. So that at some points, you may feel so proud for taking good care of yourself, for walking slowly and steadily on your journey of self-development.

Thank you for your visit. Wishing you a peaceful and loving 2022.
